MotoGP Phillip Island: Dixon dominant, happy ‘but a long way to go’

Inde GasGas Aspar’s Jake Dixon was dominant in Friday practice as he topped the Moto2 times by over half a second. Two hot laps in quick succession concluded a successful day for the British rider, with his 1’33.767 final effort cementing his place at the top of the standings.

Dixon’s late endeavours were intensified by a number of session-leading laps already being deleted due to waved yellows across both the morning and afternoon free practice sessions, the 26-year-old having had to settle for third in FP1 before he came out fighting for the final 40 minutes on track. “My second time ever here,” Dixon said with surprise after the successful day. “Obviously the first time wasn’t so great but I feel this style of track really suits my riding style.

Very fast flowing tracks I’ve been good at this year so yeah, it’s good!“I’m obviously very happy with how the day’s gone but there’s a long, long way to go.

I just need to keep working away. “There’s still things that we need to improve because I still feel uncomfortable in a few areas.
