World No. 4 Casper Ruud was the victim of an upset in a 1-6 6-7(8) straight-sets defeat to Jan-Lennard Struff in the Monte Carlo Masters round of 16.
The German, ranked No. 100 in the ATP rankings, breezed through the first set before overcoming Ruud in a tighter second set to reach only his second-ever ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final, registering his first top 10 win since June 2021.
Ad Ruud arrived in Monte Carlo fresh off the back of a title win at the Estoril Open last week, but struggled in southern France’s windy conditions, and he leaves Monte Carlo with a 10-7 record for the season.
