Mohamed Salah breaks Champions League record with six-minute hat-trick for Liverpool

Substitute Mohamed Salah grabbed the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history as Liverpool thrashed Rangers 7-1 on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had cantered to a 2-0 win over a tentative Rangers side at Anfield last week but there was initially more fight this time and the Light Blues took the lead in the 17th minute with a Scott Arfield drive.

Last season’s finalists responded seven minutes later when Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino headed in from a corner before grabbing a second in the 55th minute as the visitors’ superior quality came to the fore.

Striker Darwin Nunez added a third with a fine finish in the 66th minute before Salah grabbed three goals in six minutes and 12 seconds with Harvey Elliott notching as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side crumbled.

Mohamed Salah produced a moment of magic as Liverpool condemned Manchester City to their first Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday, with leaders Arsenal taking full advantage. The Egyptian forward's stunning goal in the 76th minute sealed a 1-0 win after a crackling contest at Anfield and leaves champions City four points behind the Gunners, who won by the same scoreline at Leeds. Elsewhere, a Mason Mount double secured a 2-0 win for Chelsea at Aston Villa and Manchester United played out a 0-0 stalemate at home to Newcastle, while Southampton drew 1-1 with West Ham.
Liverpool should consider moving Mohamed Salah into a more central position in a bid to get the team going again, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
