A missing man has been found dead in the Manchester Ship Canal. Police search teams made the tragic discovery after searching a stretch of water around Centenary Bridge, which crosses the canal between Eccles and Trafford Park, on Monday (June 26).

Firefighters and underwater search teams were drafted in to help police with the search, which also covered an area of woodland near to the bridge.

Video from the scene showed a boat being lowered into the canal. At about 6.20pm yesterday, underwater teams found the body of a man, Greater Manchester Police has confirmed.

The force said an investigation has been launched and the man's family has been informed. Details of the man's identity or age have not been released at this stage.
