Motherwell are on the verge of appointing former Blackpool chief Mark McGhee as Alan Burrows' Fir Park replacement. The Steelmen have been on the hunt for a new chief executive since Well head honcho Burrows announced he was stepping down to take over a similar role at Aberdeen.
The Lanarkshire outfit held talks with former FA director of communications Adrian Bevington before discussions broke down. Former Motherwell communications chief Grant Russell was also on the Motherwell short list of potential candidates before McGhee got the nod.
Ex-Shelbourne director Ross Dunbar and Patrick Thistle director Gerry Britton were among those interviewed by the Well board before they decided to hire McGhee, a namesake of their former manager.
McGhee has previously held finance roles with Leicester City and Harlequins rugby club. Boyhood Well fan Burrows quit in January after nine years in the role at his hometown club.
