Real Madrid superstar Marcelo called time on his career at the Bernabeu at the end of this season after securing yet another Champions League winners’ medal.

His time in that famous white shirt was truly special as he played a massive part in several all-conquering teams. The Brazilian was a crucial cog in the Zinedine Zidane juggernaut that one three European Cups on the bounce and he also played part in six La Liga title-winning sides.

While he might have been defender, Marcelo’s goalscoring record would be the envy of many a midfielder, racking up 37 strikes over the course of his 544-game career at Madrid.

Couple that with his 107 assists and you begin to understand just how special Marcelo was. Sadly, all good things must come to an end and it seems the time for the Brazilian to pass on the baton has come.
