When Bruno Fernandes returns to Carrington in the next few days he will do so with questions over his Manchester United future not too far from the surface.
The club captain will make a low-key return to training but when the club's executives return from the United States next week there will come a point when talks will surely take place to determine where every party goes from here.
There is no expectation that Fernandes will leave United this summer, but his future became a talking point in the final weeks of last season.
Bayern Munich were keen on signing the Portugal international and while he insisted he was committed to the club he has represented with distinction for the last four and a half years, his answers on his future were a little vague. "I feel that the club wants me to be a part of the future, so, as I said always, I don't want to be a player that the club doesn't want to have," he said. "If for some reason they don't want to have me, I will go, but if they want me I will stay." A couple of weeks later, before the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Fernandes opened up in more depth in an article penned for the Players' Tribune website.
