Manchester United got their 2023/24 Premier League season underway with a 1-0 win at home to Wolves last night. Raphael Varane scored the winner on the night at Old Trafford, heading home Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross from close range as United struggled to find their rhythm against an electric Wolves side.
A late penalty call for the away side was turned away as the Reds managed to start the new season with a clean sheet. Andre Onana made a number of fine saves on his competitive debut for the club, but fellow summer signing Mason Mount once again struggled to show his quality on the ball.
None of United's attackers made a good impression on an evening full of sloppy errors and frustration. Midfield was also an issue for United on the night with Wolves able to cut through them with ease.
It may be why Erik ten Hag is keen on further midfield reinforcements with reports that an approach has been made for Everton's Amadou Onana.
