Manchester United are inching closer to a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana. United have held positive discussions with Inter in recent weeks and Onana, 27, is manager Erik ten Hag's prime choice to replace David de Gea.

The clubs are still yet to settle on a final fee but United are confident of a breakthrough sooner rather than later. United sources maintain there has to be a compromise on Onana's fee as United work off a budget of £120m. United and Inter have a productive relationship, having negotiated deals for Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez in the last four years with the assistance of intermediaries.

Should United complete the signing of Onana then Dean Henderson is expected to be granted permission to join Nottingham Forest permanently.
