Manchester United's Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from Portugal's squad for the international break due to personal reasons. Dalot was set to feature for Portugal in their two upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying games, but the player has been released for unspecified personal reasons following talks with manager Roberto Martinez.
Portugal have already qualified for the tournament and Dalot was given permission by Martinez to withdraw from the squad. Dalot started in United's 1-0 win against Luton Town at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and he played at right-back in the absence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who missed out due to illness. Dalot has made league 10 starts this term and he recently signed a new United contract until the summer of 2028. Porto's Joao Mario has been drafted to replace him in the squad and he's now set to make his senior international debut.
Bruno Fernandes remains part of the Portugal squad and he's expected to start against Liechtenstein on Thursday and against Iceland on Sunday.
