A delivery service operating in Manchester is giving away free milk after soaring prices mean Brits face spending more on pints of milk than petrol at several UK supermarkets.

Shoppers have been keeping a close eye on their receipts in recent months as a result of the cost of living crisis. And while fuel prices have dropped since they were tipping the £2 a litre mark earlier this year, the price of other everyday items, such as milk, are on the rise.

Milk prices have risen by two-thirds in the past year, pushing up the average price per pint to 86p - the equivalent of £1.50 a litre. By contrast, petrol prices have fallen from a high of 191p a litre to around 149p at the pump in some areas. According to the RAC, the current average price of petrol per litre is 164.13p, and ‘should fall’ again soon.
