"Manchester at this time of day is like Greece in September," he said, admiring the newly-laid turf and array of colours in clouds painted by the setting sun. The pens were for a boy in my class who had set me an entry fee. If I wanted to play football at break, then there was a cost. I knew it was because I was a girl, and that it was unfair, but still I handed over my felt tips. The only thing that really mattered was the football.
Given that Alejandro Garnacho had just been included in the Argentina squad for the March international break, his injury came at the worst possible time. The youngster is still waiting to make his first appearance for the South American side, and he will have hoped to have achieved it over the next two games.
