Manchester United were defeated 1-0 by Real Sociedad in their Europa League match on Thursday evening due to a controversial penalty decision.
The game went ahead at Old Trafford despite the death of Queen Elizabeth II earlier in the day. A lovely tribute took place before the match as everyone inside the stadium paid tribute to Her Majesty, The Queen.
A minute’s silence was held and players from both sides wore black armbands in her memory. It was Real Sociedad who won 1-0 courtesy of a controversial second-half penalty.
A shot on goal by Man City legend David Silva rebounded off Lisandro Martinez’s leg and hit his arm. The referee pointed to the spot and awarded the away side a penalty.
