A body found in the Manchester Ship Canal is believed to be that of a missing man from Salford. Emergency services made the tragic discovery after searching a stretch of water around Centenary Bridge, which crosses the canal between Eccles and Trafford Park, on Monday (June 26).

Police search teams and firefighters began searching the area following reports of an abandoned vehicle being found near to the bridge earlier in the day. The force said an investigation has been launched and the man's family has been informed. The Manchester Evening News understands the body is that of a man named Kazeem, who had been missing for several days.

Police issued an appeal for help in finding the 40-year-old on Monday. Officers said Kazeem, whose surname was not provided, was last seen in the Walkden area last Thursday (June 22).
