Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool fans to pack out Anfield stadium on Sunday when the women’s team host Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season.
The Reds earned promotion back into the Women’s Super League last season and have already made a huge statement. They faced off against Chelsea in their first match of the campaign and left the reigning champions stunned after snatching all three points.
The next fixture will see Liverpool Women return to Anfield for the first time since 2019 and Klopp is rallying for supporters to get behind the team and fill the stands. “On Sunday, our Liverpool Women play against Everton — if that’s not enough of a reason to go to Anfield then I don’t know!” the long serving men’s team manager laughed in a recent club video.
Klopp then said he would “love to see a sold out Anfield” for the blockbuster clash. “Maybe that’s a bit ambitious but if you don’t try, you’ll never get there.” With the men’s team now on international break, the German admitted he will not be in the country this weekend and therefore won’t be able to attend the match, but has passed on his well wishes and support to Matt Beard and his team. “I wish you the best of luck, a lot of fun, and three points against Everton.
