Liverpool could still make a late move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes ahead of the summer transfer deadline, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. Jurgen Klopp has overseen a solid summer of business at Anfield and the Reds could still strengthen further with weeks remaining until the window slams shut.

Only three new faces have arrived on the red half of Merseyside this summer in the form of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, with £77 million spent in total.

That fee will pass the £100 million mark if they do complete a move for Nunes this summer, however. A £51 million release clause is reportedly included in the 23-year-old’s contract which is set to expire in four years’ time.

Leeds United and Wolves have both been linked as well but the player apparently wants to stay in the capital according to reports in Portugal.
