Motorists are facing delays on the M56 this afternoon following reports of a vehicle fire. Traffic is building on the eastbound carriageway at J6 A538 Wilmslow Road (Hale Four Seasons Roundabout).
Two lanes are currently closed. Images from National Highways show queues forming close to Manchester Airport. A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 1pm on Sunday, 2nd July, one fire engine from Wythenshawe station was called to reports of a vehicle fire on the M56, close to junction six. “The fire involved a car on the hard shoulder of the motorway, which was well alight when fire crews arrived at the scene.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for around 50 minutes.” All three lanes have been reopened.
