LIVE: Main road shut both ways near Stockport College with police on scene - latest updates

A main road in Stockport is cordoned off by police this afternoon. The A6 Wellington Road South, just outside the Stockport College, is shut in both directions.

It is closed from Greek Street to Longshut Lane. Traffic is being diverted away from the area, with some buses having to take a different route.

Tactical Aid Unit officers have been pictured on the scene. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for details. Local councillor Christine Carrigan said in post on Facebook: "Thanks to everyone informing me of the situation at Stockport College this morning.
