A flood warning has been issued across parts of Greater Manchester after days of rain in the region. The official alert for the Upper River Irwell catchment area includes parts of Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall.

Another alert has been issued for the Lower River Irwell catchment including areas in Greater Manchester, as of 9am this morning (Sunday, July 23). Areas most at risk of flooding include low lying agricultural land and roads and footpaths close to rivers and streams.

The flood alert, issued by the Environment Agency, also includes Rivers Beal, Roch and Croal, Limy Water and their tributaries, and Rivers Irk and Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks.

The situation is being 'monitored' across Greater Manchester with people urged to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
