Five flood alerts remain in place in Greater Manchester this morning following a long spell of heavy rain. The Environment Agency issued the warnings yesterday (Sunday) after the Met Office issued a yellow warning weather warning for rain until 11.59pm.
A number of roads were closed yesterday due to flooding and surface water, with further closures put in place overnight. According to the Environment Agency, people living in areas covered by the flood alerts should 'be prepared' as waters levels rise.

The five alerts are in place for the Upper River Irwell catchment with Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall, the Upper River Douglas from Horwich Star Vale to Appley Bridge including Adlington, Blackrod, Wigan, Standish, and Gathurst, the Lower River Irwell catchment also includes the Rivers Irk and Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks and their tributaries, the Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston and the River Glaze catchment including Leigh and East Wigan.
In Wigan, Loire Drive at Robin Park was shut off yesterday due to 'reports of flood water entering homes due to surface water'.
