Law and District Athletics Club enjoy cross country and road relay tests

Law and District athletes have been out in force recently competing in all weathers at the last cross country races of the season.

The much anticipated final cross country event, the National Championships, was held at Calendar Park, Falkirk, with over 2200 athletes competing from all over Scotland.

Twenty-eight Law athletes competed over the long, hilly course with the top performance of the day going to U17 Jessica Inglis, who finished in an impressive fourth place in a field of 67 in the 6.2k race.

Other results on the day were as follows: U13s raced over 3.2k with Olivia Inglis 29th, Isla Cameron 63rd, Freya Togneri 91st, Sarah Chambers 109th in a field of 120 girls and Cameron Chambers 24th, Blair Beverley 43rd and Jamie Mackie 61st in a field of 114 boys.

Max Verstappen took pole position from George Russell and Lewis Hamilton for the Australian Grand Prix in tricky conditions during qualifying in Melbourne. Light rain before qualifying, cool conditions and chaos in the three practice sessions meant there were plenty of unknowns, but Verstappen came out on top with a superb final run in Q3 that was 0.236 seconds faster than Russell, with Hamilton another 0.136 seconds further adrift. Ad Verstappen, who has never won at Albert Park, was the only driver in Q3 to not do a warm-up lap before his flying laps.
