There has been a lot of discussion lately over star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah becoming the Indian cricket team skipper in the near future.

In a recent interaction, Bumrah said that it is time for fast bowlers to be considered for captaincy and even called himself his "favourite captain".

However, former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik is not in favour of Bumrah becoming the captain and he said that the fast bowler needs to be protected.

During an interaction on Cricbuzz, Karthik called Bumrah 'like a Kohinoor diamond' and said that he should be made to play only in important matches for the side. "For a fast bowler like Bumrah, his fitness needs to be monitored and he needs to be protected as a player and only made to play in important matches, I keep saying this about Bumrah, he is like a Kohinoor diamond, we got to protect him, take care of him, make sure that he lasts as long as possible because whenever Bumrah plays in any format he makes an impact and that's what we want." India fast bowler Akash Deep has hailed pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, saying "he has been uniquely crafted by God" and it's really tough to follow his actions. Akash made his memorable Test debut in February against England in Ranchi, where Rahul Dravid handed him his cap. He made everyone take notice with a fiery opening spell. With impressive performances in red-ball cricket, he now earned a spot in the 16-member squad for the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. "This is a huge responsibility that I have been given, allowing me to serve my team. Shami bhai is currently injured... I see this as a responsibility and am trying my best to live up to the faith that the selectors and BCCI management have placed in me," Akash Deep told IANS on his selection to the Indian squad.
The India office of American Pistachios Growers (APG) has announced Jasprit Bumrah, one of the leading pace bowlers in the world, as the brand ambassador for California-grown American pistachios for the 2024-25 season. "Jasprit Bumrah's unwavering commitment to excellence, both on and off the field, makes him the ideal ambassador for American Pistachios Growers (APG)," said Garth Thorburn, the Minister Counselor for Agriculture at the US Embassy in India.
Arguably the finest bowler of his generation and the best in the world at the moment, Jasprit Bumrah is used to getting the highest praise from cricketers, experts and fans alike. However, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has gone one step further in stating that Bumrah is so good that he would threaten batters on cement pitches. Bumrah - who won the Player of the Tournament award in India's title-winning 2024 T20 World Cup - was singled out for compliments by Ali.
Amid the chatter around Jasprit Bumrah being potentially rested for the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh, the marquee pacer surprisingly found a place in the squad for the first Test. Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant also marked his return to the Test side after nearly 20 months out as India announced their 16-man squad for the series opener on Sunday. While some big names returned to the squad, some prominent names missed out too. However, another decision from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee that raised eyebrows was the absence of a designated vice-captain.
India's Test squad for the first Test against Bangladesh has seen plenty of Ins and Outs from the previous series against England. While Mohammed Shami couldn't prove his fitness to mark his return, marquee pacer Jasprit Bumrah did make it to the 16-member squad despite suggestions that he could be in for a longer break. However, the team did witness plenty of changes in comparison to the squad that was picked for India's previous Test assignment against England at home, which the hosts won 4-1.
Former Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik snubbed both Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul while picking the top choices for cricketers who can succeed Rohit Sharma as the 'all-format captain'. Instead, he opted for the two youngsters - Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant - as his options. Rohit remains the ODI and Test captain but following his retirement from the shortest format of the sport, Suryakumar Yadav piped Hardik Pandya to become the T20I captain. However, BCCI traditionally prefers to have an all-format captain and Karthik gave his reasons behind picking the two stars.
