Rangers captain James Tavernier was the Hampden hero again as he fired his side to Viaplay Cup glory to land his third major trophy as skipper with a 1-0 win over Aberdeen - as Philippe Clement tasted silverware success after just two months in charge.

Tavernier’s strike - incredibly for a full back his 115th for the club - settled the final at a rain-lashed National Stadium to secure the League Cup for the club for the first time since 2012 and complete the domestic set for the 32-year-old since taking over as captain.

It was a disappointing day for Barry Robson’s Dons despite star striker Bojan Miovski declared fit in a huge boost for the Dons while Todd Cantwell returned for Rangers in one of three changes from the team that started the win over Real Betis in Seville.

John Lundstram caught Jamie McGrath late in a crunching early challenge and was lucky Don Robertson didn’t flash a yellow card in his direction.
