Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that James McCarthy is set to leave the club. The 32-year-old Irish midfielder signed a four-year deal at Parkhead under Ange Postecoglou in 2021.
But he has started just six games in two seasons and is deemed surplus to requirements by Rodgers. McCarthy has been plagued by injuries since arriving at his boyhood club and is now open to offers.
After discussions with the Republic of Ireland international, Rodgers hopes McCarthy either finds a new club or can strike a deal with the Parkhead hierarchy to go.
The Hoops gaffer said: “It’s a real shame for James because growing up he was a Celtic supporter. I saw him in the English Premier League and he was fantastic with Wigan, Everton and Crystal Palace.
