Coronation Street fans made the same observation as they sat down to watch Wednesday's epsisode of the soap. Chef Stu Carpenter has been protesting his innocence since his love interest Yasmeen Nazir found out that he was jailed for 27 years for the murder of a young woman he had an affair with.
Stu has explained to Yasmeen and her grandchildren Alya and Zeedan that he was wrongly imprisoned. But a terrified Yasmeen, who suffered months of abuse at the hands of her late husband Geoff Metcalfe as part of harrowing coercive control storyline, is yet to believe Stu's pleas.
He was recently arrested by PC Craig Tinker for being in breach of the peace when he showed up at her home. And when Craig broke the news that Stu could be released within a matter of days, Yasmeen suffered a panic attack as she tried to host a fundraising event at her restaurant Speed Daal. And when her neighbour Roy Cropper called to find Yasmeen in a terrible state and struggling to breathe he came to the rescue and donned an apron to help out in the kitchen.
