Irish eventing team secure Paris 2024 Olympics spot

The Irish eventing team has qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics after a fifth place finish at the FEI World Championships in Pratoni.With a place at the next Games up for grabs for the top seven teams, the Dag Albert-managed Irish quartet of Sam Watson, Padraig McCarthy, Susie Berry and Austin O'Connor were 12th with a score of 99.0 after the initial dressage round.They then climbed to fifth and a score of 105.0 after the cross-country section, before finishing on 136.8 after the jumping round and well inside the top seven.Germany, USA and New Zealand took the medal places, with Great Britain fourth.

Sweden and Switzerland were ranked sixth and seventh behind Ireland.The eventing team join the Irish showjumpers in qualify for the next Games, with the latter having secured their place last month after a fourth-place finish at the FEI World Championships in Denmark.
