Indian Men's 4x400m Relay Quartet Confident Of Asian Games Gold

Amoj Jacob, one of the runners in the men's 4x400m relay quartet that came close to shattering the USA's aura of invincibility at the World Athletics Championships recently, said on Tuesday he was confident India would win the Asian Games gold, and would also aim for an Olympic podium finish if it qualifies.

The 4x400m relay team smashed the Asian record in a stunning race, clocking 2 minute 59.05 seconds in the heat to qualify for its maiden final round of the Worlds in Budapest last week.

The quartet of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh finished second behind USA to make it to the final of the event before it finished fifth among six teams in the showdown.

Jacob, the second runner in the quartet, said that after shattering the Asian record of 2:59.51, "barring unforseen circumstances, we will win the Hangzhou Asian Games gold, and will also aim for a podium finish at the Olympic next year (if we qualify)".

After the Asia Cup in cricket, the focus now shifts on the 2023 Asian Games. India will be aiming to scale new heights at the Asian Games 2023 after registering their best-ever medal count at the 2018 edition. The 2023 edition of the Asian Games will start on September 23 in China's Hangzhou and will go on till October 8. The 19th edition of the Asian Games will witness a 655-member strong Indian team in action in 41 disciplines out of 61. The games will be played across 56 venues, with 481 gold medals on offer, as per Olympics.com.

Indian Football Team Departs For Asian Games 2023 Without Two Players

Defenders Konsam Chinglensana Singh and Lalchungnunga did not accompany the Indian football team that left the country on Sunday for the Asian Games in China as their visa was not ready but a top IOA official said the duo will get their travel documents in a day or two. Chinglensana and Lalchungnunga were apparently not in the initial long list of 50 players submitted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the Asian Games and hence they did get their accreditation even though they were named in the 22-member team named in the last minute.

The Indian men's and women's football teams will fly out to Hangzhou on Sunday night for the Asian Games, quelling speculation about some logistical issues with regards to the flight tickets. Bhupender Singh Bajwa, the Indian chef de mission for the Asian Games, told PTI on Saturday that the tickets had been "issued". The Asian Games are scheduled to commence on September 23 but the football event will kick off from September 19.

Speaking exclusively to ANI, Anupama mentioned Lakshya as someone she looked up to during her training days under his father DK Sen's guidance. Lakshya also inspired her to play internationally. “At the age of 11, I started training under sir DK Sen; he is Lakshya Sen's father. I used to look up to Lakshya, and how he is playing at the national, and international level, winning trophies. I used to look at him and I also wanted to win titles. At the age of 11, I decided to play internationally and win lots of medals for the country," she said.
