India vs West Indies: Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar, Shubman Gill For Unique Feat with Test Debut

Talented left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who became the latest Test debutant for India, batted with grit on the first day of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica.

He stayed unbeaten on 40 and looked set to complete his maiden half-century in Test on Day 2 of the match. With his Test debut, Jaiswal achieved a unique feat surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, Shubman Gill.

Jaiswal's first-class average ahead of making his Test debut was 80.21 in 15 matches. It's the third highest for any Indian batter.

Vinod Kambli (88.37, 27 matches) and Pravin Amre (81.23, 23 matches) had better first-class average before making their Test debut.

In comparison, Sachin had 321 followed by Shubman Gill (320) and Kris Srikkanth (261). The youngster also equalled MS Dhoni's record of scoring back-to-back fifties as a wicket-keeper batsman – a feat that the former India skipper achieved back in 2017 against West Indies.
India skipper Rohit Sharma has been receiving a lot of praise for his performance in the recently concluded two-match Test series against West Indies. The 36-year-old batter not only brought up his hundred in the first Test but also went on to smash a half-century in the second match. Though Team India failed to register a clean sweep as Day 5 of the second Test got washed out, they still managed to claim the series with 1-0 lead. Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim praised Rohit for his excellent captaincy.

Having taken two wickets to leave the beleaguered West Indies trailing by 289 runs by the end of the fourth day's play, the Indians would have certainly fancied their chances of emerging victorious and grabbing a full 24 points in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
Following his 76th international century in his 500th international match, star India batter Virat Kohli said that his century was satisfying as he had to "do the hard yards" and added that he had to be patient as the wicket was slow.  West Indies made a cautious start in reply to India's massive first innings total of 438 runs as they lost only one wicket during the final session of the second Test at Port of Spain on Saturday.
