Shakib Al Hasan is set for his last appearance in Test cricket in front of the home crowd as the venerable all-rounder was named in Bangladesh's squad for the first match against South Africa, starting on Monday. Before the second and final Test against India at Kanpur, Shakib had expressed his wish to play his final Test at home against South Africa, provided the Bangladesh Cricket Board was able to ensure his safety. Khaled Ahmed is the only omission from the squad that recently toured India. Shakib has been accused of being involved in the murder of a student but the Bangladesh veteran was taking part in a T20 league in Canada at the time of the incident.
Veteran Indian spin bowling allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin reenvisioned the beauty of Test cricket, calling it a pinnacle of the sport, in a video released by the BCCI on their official social media handle. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, the torchbearers of transition, will have to be India's driving force in their quest to lord over an unsettled New Zealand in a three-Test series, beginning here with the first match here on Wednesday.  The baton has not been completely passed, but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are certainly running their last lap and these two young superstars will have to show that they can carry forward the legacy of the titans.
Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja opened up on Ravichandran Ashwin's performance in the India-Bangladesh Test series and said that the 38-year-old has not received the kind of status as an all-rounder that he deserves. In the recently concluded two-match Test series, Ashwin picked 11 wickets; he was also the highest wicket-taker along with Jasprit Bumrah. With the bat, he scored 114 runs at a strike rate of 83.21 in the two-match series. Ashwin was also named the 'Player of the Series' following his stunning display against the visitors.
India thrashed Bangladesh in the second Test despite over two days being lost due to rain and wet outfield particularly due to their aggressive approach. After Bangladesh 233 all out in 74.2 overs in the first innings, India responded with a score of 285/9d in just 34.4 overs. Bangladesh managed just 146 in the second innings as India chased down the 95-run target with ease. India's fast-paced batting led Michael Vaughan, former England captain, to say cheekily that the Rohit Sharma-led side was 'copying' the ultra-aggressive Bazball approach.
