Nathan Lyon was once again the pick of the bowlers for Australia as the veteran spinner completed a brilliant eight-wicket haul to hand his side the advantage against India in the third Test match in Indore on Thursday.

Lyon ended up dismissing India skipper Rohit Sharma (12), Cheteshwar Pujara (59), Ravindra Jadeja (7), Srikar Bharat (3), Ravichandran Ashwin (16), Umesh Yadav (0) and Mohammed Siraj (0) in the second innings.

As a result, he piped India legend Anil Kumble to become the highest wicket-taker in India-Australia Test matches. Lyon broke Kumble's record with the wicket of Umesh and in the process, he also became the most successful spinner against India in Test cricket.

Lyon went past Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan with the wicket of Gill to add the massive milestone to his name. Lyon took eight wickets on Thursday to give Australia a glimmer of hope of beating India in the third Test -- provided they can avoid another calamitous batting collapse.

Former India cricketer Anil Kumble has named two players, who he feels are the most underrated ones in the recent past in the Indian Premier League. His first pick was right-handed batter Mayank Agarwal, while surprisingly his pick in the bowlers' category was right-arm spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Kumble said that Chahal has not received enough credit for what he has done in IPL. Agarwal has played 113 matches and scored 2327 runs, while Chahal has played 131 matches and picked 166 wickets in the T20 tournament.
Virender Sehwag's statements have as much clarity as his batting. The legendary batter changed the definition of how openers played in Tests with his brutal hitting. It made Sehwag a popular name and one of the most feared batters during his playing days. He was the first Indian batter to score a triple ton in Tests and came within seven runs of becoming the first batter to score three triple tons. In 2017, he was approached to apply for the India coach's role as Anil Kumble's successor.
India rode Virat Kohli's brilliant century and Axar Patel's equally effective supporting act to take control on Day 4 of the fourth Test match against Australia on Sunday. While the Indian batsmen looking quite comfortable against the Australia bowlers, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon was able to claim a massive milestone. With the dismissal of KS Bharat, Lyon became the highest overseas wicket-taker in Test matches on Indian soil. He currently has 55 wickets from 11 matches in India and he surpassed the record held by former England spinner Derek Underwood. Underwood had 54 wickets against India in away matches from 16 games with best figures of 5 for 84.
Nathan Lyon may have got just a single wicket after sending down 30-odd overs on the day but he feels that his effort on Saturday during India's first innings was way better than his 11-wicket match haul in Indore on a track designed for spinners. India finished the third day at 289 for 3 in reply to Australia's 480 on a good batting deck. "It's more of a patient game. When the pitch is like Indore... I felt like I bowled better today than what I did in Indore. And it's just coming down to doing your basics well enough for long enough," Lyon said. For him, Tests like these are decided in the last half an hour and right now it is on even keel.
Virat Kohli reached his first Test half-century since January 2022 during Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On Saturday, Kohli hit an unbeaten 59 after Shubman Gill had scored his second Test ton to take India to 289/3 at stumps against Australia. However, Kohli had a nervy start to his innings as he got off the mark on the 12th ball, with Nathan Lyon putting constant pressure on him from one end.
Truly an asset for the Indian cricket team, Ravichandran Ashwin spun web around Australian batters on Day 2 of the 4th Test in Ahmedabad, bagging a whopping 6 wickets as the tourists were bundled out for 480 runs. En route his 6-for, Ashwin went on to break two of Anil Kumble's records. As the cricketing world bowed down to Ashwin's magic, even Kumble took to Twitter to hail the Tamil Nadu-born off-spinner, posting a 'class' tweet.
