The on-field rivalry between India and Pakistan is considered to be one of the intense battles in the world of cricket. The two teams have not played a bilateral series in around a decade due to political tensions and as a result, their matches in international or continental competitions are some of the most highly-anticipated encounters in the calendar.

Last time when these two teams faced each other was in the Cricket World Cup 2023 and India were able to extend their unbeaten run against Pakistan in the tournament.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes that India are currently "far superior" in comparison to Pakistan and as a result, the balance in the rivalry is not same as earlier. "Pakistan has dominated India a lot of times.

Currently, if you see the level of both teams, India is far superior to Pakistan in all three formats. If Pakistan defeats India it's an upset, if India defeats Pakistan, it's very much given," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

If 23 wickets fall in one day of a Test match, only two short of the all-time record, there are bound to be question marks. It cannot just be the poor batting or great bowling, there has to be something more than that. And if those 23 wickets fall on the first day of a Test then the questions will be more. That is what is happening after the first day of the second Test between India and South Africa in Cape Town on Wednesday.
Mohammed Siraj's six-wicket haul against South Africa in the first session of the second Test in Cape Town once again showed India's pace might. Apart from Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Muesh Kumar took two wickets each. It was yet another proof of Indian pace bowling being one of the best in the world. In a straight spell of nine overs, Siraj picked a career-best 6 for 15 as the South African batters made a beeline back to the dug-out, unable to counter the disconcerting bounce and the movement, both inward and outward, that he extracted off the surface.
The on-field rivalry between India and Pakistan is arguably the biggest rivalry in world of cricket. With both teams facing off only in ICC and continental tournaments, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels that the India-Pakistan rivalry has lost its charm in recent times. He feels that the India-Australia rivalry has emerged as a top one in the recent past.
