Chennai Super Kings' tried-and-tested strategy of leaving it for late did not yield the desired results as they lost to Rajasthan Royals by three runs in the 17th match of the IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday night.

This was CSK's only second loss to RR at home in eight games. Chasing a tricky 176 for victory, CSK finished proceedings at 172/6 with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni staying unbeaten on a 17-ball 32.

Dhoni, who was leading CSK for the 200th time in the IPL, hit three sixes and a boundary, while Ravindra Jadeja, the other unbeaten batter, scored a 15-ball 25.

Bowling the last over with 20 runs to defend, the vastly experienced medium pacer Sandeep Sharma, held his nerves to restrict the yellow brigade, despite Dhoni's two excellent sixes in the over.

The IPL 2023 match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals turned out to be a memorable one, not only for being the 1000th match of the tournament but also for the successful run-chase by the Rohit Sharma-led side. Playing at Wankhede, MI got a mammoth target of 213 to chase after youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed his maiden IPL century. Later, MI chased down the target with three balls to spare, courtesy of Tim David's last-over heroics, where he smashed three consecutive sixes off Jason Holder's delivery. Apart from this, one thing which grabbed a lot of attention was pacer Sandeep Sharma's stunning catch to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav.

Marcus Stoinis was the star performer for Lucknow Super Giants as the KL Rahul-led side registered a mammoth win over Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Friday. Stoinis came in to bat at No 4 and slammed 72 off 40 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes. He stitched together brilliant partnerships with both Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran as LSG registered the second-highest total in the history of the competition. At one point, LSG looked all set to breach the 275-run mark but a couple of quick wickets meant that they finished at 257/5 in 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a top of the table clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. Currently occupying the third spot, a win would take RR above CSK at the top of the points table. The Sanju Samson-led side can take a bit of solace from the fact they emerged victorious in their first meeting of this season against CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. However, RR head into this fixture on the back of a narrow defeat at the hands of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. It is likely that the management will make some rotation in the playing XI.
