New Reading FC striker Shane Long says he owes Brian McDermott a lot for helping him on his footballing journey in English football.
The former Royals boss helped bring the striker over to Berkshire back in 2005 from Cork City, a deal which also involved Kevin Doyle.
The pair went on to become true heroes in a Reading shirt and although Doyle is now retired, Long's playing days are far from over having just completed a sensational return to Royals - 17 years after his debut.
The 35-year-old, who has played for West Bromwich Albion, Hull City and Southampton over the past decade, is set to end his career where it all started having had six years in Berkshire between 2005 and 2011.
