Virat Kohli returned as Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper for the match against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last time around, with full-time skipper Faf du Plessis deciding to become an 'Impact Player' due to a small injury problem. As the Bengaluru franchise takes on Rajasthan Royals in the first match of the double-header on Sunday, it would be interesting to see if a similar approach is opted for by RCB. Du Plessis and Kohli did the bulk of the scoring with the bat against PBKS but the franchise needs other batters to step up to, especially aginst an in-form side like the Royals.
Perennial slow starters Mumbai Indians have found their mojo and will be favourites against a faltering Punjab Kings in their Indian Premier League clash on Saturday. Having made a poor start with defeats in first two matches, Mumbai Indians, who are placed sixth in the points table, have been able to bounce back impressively with wins against Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore are practically synonymous when it comes to the Indian Premier League. The star India batter has played for the franchise since the inception of the tournament back in 2008 and he has emerged as a mega star to the RCB fans. In a recent interaction with former India cricketer Robin Uthappa on JioCinema, Kohli opened up on his partnership with RCB over the years and even spoke about another franchise that came close to acquiring his services. However, the former India skipper was quick to point out that his plan for his career was not aligned with that team.
Virat Kohli has been going great in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He has scored three half-centuries already and is among the top run-getters in the league. The form is an extension of Kohli's performance for the Indian team in recent times. Since the 2022 Asia Cup, where he scored his maiden T20I ton, Kohli has been very consistent. He is now second to only the great Sachin Tendulkar in terms of number of international centuries. However, there was a lengthy period before the Asia Cup, where a century drought led to several experts pointing out that all was not well with Kohli. The ex India skipper even took a brief break from the game.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli has said he feels embarrassed when people compare him with Sachin Tendulkar and noted that the legendary cricketer has been a source of inspiration and comfort. "I just laugh it off every time. These people have no idea about the game. I feel embarrassed when I am compared to Sachin though I get where these people are coming from with all those statistics and stuff. But these stats tell you a different story. The impact a player leaves on you as a child growing up is very different," Kohli said in an interview with former India cricketer Robin Uthappa on Jio Cinema.
With a penchant for making big scores, Shubman Gill could be the next big thing in Indian cricket, feels for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja. Gill, who has already scored a century at least in every format, showed his class en route to a sublime 67 off 49 balls in Gujarat Titans' six-wicket win over Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League here on Thursday. After seeing his knock against PBKS, Raja suggested Gill could be the likely successor to Virat Kohli.
