Hardik Pandya has evolved in terms of maturity and performance. While batting has always been his forte, bowling has also become a crucial part of his game now.

Hardik missed bowling in several matches in the recent years due to injury before making a superb return. Be it his performance in Indian Premier League 2022 or for the Indian team of late, people never get tired of praising the star all-rounder.

As of latest, India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has lauded the player for the versatility in his batting and also talked about how Hardik has improved as a bowler.

It is worth noting that Hardik played as a lower-order batter at the international level and in IPL during the initial years of his career before he showed immense maturity to play as a specialist batter and returned noticeable scores during crunch situations.

Asia Cup... Lack of big game temperamentAs in the past, India excelled in the build-up to the Asia Cup, winning bilateral games against Ireland and England. But the performance dipped dramatically again in a major tournament, especially in the crunch games. Some sub-par performances in crunch games are responsible for this. Suryakumar Yadav has a strike rate of 160 in this Asia Cup, mainly due to his 26-ball 68 (strike rate 243) against minnows Hong Kong. Against Pakistan, he scored 18 off 18 balls and 13 off 10. Against Sri Lanka he made 34 off 29 balls. Which means in these key games, he had a modest strike rate of 118. KL Rahul has a strike rate of 104, Hooda 106 and Pant 124 in this edition.
Defending champions India went perilously close to elimination after a six-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in their super four stage match of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. The result left the Men in Blue at the mercy of the other teams to have a chance of making it to the final. It also meant that India skipper Rohit Sharma's scintillating 41-ball 72 went in vain, as the islanders completed a chase of 174 with a ball to spare. Needing 21 in 12 balls, Sri Lanka scored 14 runs off the penultimate over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, almost sealing it in their favour.
Everything was going hunky-dory for the Indian bowling unit as long as Hardik Pandya was delivering with the ball alongside his batting post his return from injury, but the medium pacer's performance against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage last week has probably once again given rise to a few old questions - Can Hardik be trusted to be one of the frontline seamers and bowl his full quota of four overs in every game possible or should he be looked at as a stop-gap arrangement?
The T20 World Cup is less than two months away and all the teams are gearing up for the mega-contest. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team is also getting ready for the contest with some top-level series, including the Asia Cup. India have not won any ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy, and all eyes would be on Rohit's side to end that drought. In the last few months, several Indian players have performed well in the T20 format, and Hardik Pandya features prominently among them. So, when Ricky Ponting was asked on 'The ICC Review'to name the top-five players that he would select while going for a World T20I team, Pandya was one of the first picks.
India would need to get the best out of their thin bowling resources and avoid too much experimentation when they clash with Sri Lanka in their must win Super 4 game in the Asia Cup on Tuesday. In the absence of injured Ravindra Jadeja, Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, India do not have a lot of options to play with in the bowling department. India went in with five bowling options against Pakistan on Sunday and it did not work out in their favour as Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a rare off day.

After a match-winning effort in the opening game against Pakistan, Hardik Pandya proved expensive and so was Yuzvendra Chahal, who has not at been his best in the tournament.
