Stirling Albion boss Darren Young says some home truths were aired after locking his side in the dressing room for 45 minutes after a 5-0 thrashing at Hamilton Accies on Saturday.
A Kevin O’Hara hat-trick and a double from Euan Henderson did the damage, but it could have been worse, as Blair Currie saved Henderson’s penalty with five minutes to go, with sub Dale Hilson red-carded inside stoppage time.
Cambuslang man Young knew last season’s League Two champions would find it tough, but was still frustrated at the manner of the defeat, with Albion barely laying a glove on John Rankin’s side.
He said: “It wasn’t good enough, we know that, and all over the park. “Probably the only positive thing to come out of it was the 45-minute meeting we just had with the players, which was good. “There were a few home truths and it’s good to hear from them, and good for ourselves. “We take on board what they’re saying and they’re understanding and accepting what we’re saying as well. “It’s maybe a good thing that this has happened, we’re still in a decent position. “We knew at some point in the season that we would maybe be in this position as the new team coming up. “We certainly weren’t getting excited or carried away by how well we did at the start. “But it was good to get things out in the open, clear the air and see how guys feel. “They then understand how we look at games and things, so it was good.” Former Aberdeen and Dunfermline midfielder Young added: “You look at the goals that you lose and if you can’t defend properly then it kind of kills you. “Up until they scored in the second half I thought we were the team that was on top, but we’re not testing keepers enough, we’re not creating enough clear-cut chances – I don’t know
