Sanju Samson made the world stand up and take notice as he registered the second fastest T20I ton for an Indian, in the third and final match of the series against Bangladesh on Saturday.

Samson, who is yet to be considered a regular in the Indian team, produced mind-boggling hitting at Hyderabad's Uppal stadium, scoring 47-ball 111 while opening the innings.

However, opening in T20Is isn't a role Samson has been playing recently. But, a message from the leadership group helped him prepare for this challenge efficiently.

Samson doesn't even open for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals but was given the role alongside Abhishek Sharma for the Bangladesh T20Is.

Vijay Dahiya has known Gautam Gambhir for over two decades while navigating the choppy waters of Delhi cricket together, hence he is certain that his former teammate would address Indian team's tough transition phase in his inimitable chin-up style. For India's current head coach, the Test series defeat against New Zealand at home, a first in 12 years and after 18 victories on the trot, would be a bitter pill to swallow. But Gambhir can't be faulted if there's a sense of déjà vu.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar refused to put the blame on head coach Gautam Gambhir after the Test series loss New Zealand on Saturday. India suffered a first series loss at home after 12 years as New Zealand took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the Pune Test by 113 runs. India captain Rohit Sharma's approach was heavily criticised by fans and experts, while head coach Gambhir also faced flak on social media. However, Sanjay Manjrekar also opined that the blame of this loss cannot be put on the shoulders of Gambhir as the coach has a "minimal influence on the team".
The Indian cricket team's losses in the first two Tests against New Zealand has sent shockwaves in the entire cricketing spectrum. The series loss against the Kiwis means that the Indian team suffered a home loss for the first time in 12 years, having previously been outplayed by England in 2012. In the wake of the results from the first two Tests, the team management has reportedly taken a stern step, cancelling the 'optional training' session for everyone, including senior stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, as well as pacers like Jasprit Bumrah.
Delhi speedster Harshit Rana and Andhra seam bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy have earned their maiden call-up in the 18-member Indian team led by Rohit Sharma for the upcoming five-Test series against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.  Delhi speedster Harshit is only nine First-Class matches old in which he has taken 36 wickets. But with a stellar IPL 2024 season under Gautam Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he took 19 wickets, Rana has come quickly into the national reckoning and has been part of the squads in all formats, although he is yet to make his debut. A BCCI source revealed that Rana has been purely Gambhir's choice
India captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir faced plenty of criticism as they replaced Kuldeep Yadav with Washington Sundar in the team's playing XI for the second Test against New Zealand. Even India legend Sunil Gavaskar criticised the decision while commentating on the match but Sundar went on to prove everyone wrong. The off-spinner picked up 7 wickets in the innings, with Ashwin claiming the other three as New Zealand were bowled out for 259. With Sundar playing pivotal role for India with the ball, Gambhir couldn't keep calm at the innings break.
Rishabh Pant has "no injury concerns" and is set to keep wickets for India while the team will decide on Jasprit Bumrah's workload after the second Test against New Zealand starting here on Thursday, said head coach Gautam Gambhir. Pant copped a blow on the second day of the opening Test in Bengaluru and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel behind the wickets. Pant returned to score a fine century but did not keep wickets.
