Former France striker Just Fontaine, who scored a record 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup, has died at the age of 89. Fontaine, who was born in Marrakech, Morocco, in 1933, passed away at his home in Toulouse, France, on Wednesday.

The tally at the finals in Sweden, where he put four goals past West Germany in the third-place play-off match, is the highest in a single tournament.

Fontaine is tied with Lionel Messi as the fourth highest total goals scorer at World Cups, with only West Germany's Gerd Muller (14), Brazil's Ronaldo (15) and Germany's Miroslav Klose (16) ahead of him.

Fontaine, scored 30 goals in just 21 games for France before his career was cut short by injury. The forward scored 226 goals in 248 goals in a club career that began at USM Casablanca before moving to Nice and Stade Reims in France.

Kylian Mbappe became Paris Saint-Germain's all-time top scorer with his 201st goal for the club in their 4-2 win over Nantes in Ligue 1 on Saturday. The France superstar had equalled Edinson Cavani's previous record mark of 200 goals with a brace in last week's win at Marseille and went one better by netting in stoppage time at the Parc des Princes. PSG had earlier squandered a two-goal lead as they prepared for their crunch trip to Bayern Munich, with Lionel Messi putting them ahead and a Jaouen Hadjam own goal making it 2-0 inside 17 minutes before Nantes fought back to draw level prior to half-time.

Kylian Mbappe will lead Paris Saint-Germain into their meeting with Nantes on Saturday looking for the goal that will put him out on his own as the club's all-time top scorer as they get ready for a season-defining trip to Bayern Munich. Mbappe's brace in PSG's 3-0 win at bitter rivals Marseille last weekend took him to 200 goals for the Qatar-owned club and allowed him to equal his former teammate Edinson Cavani as their record marksman. It would be a surprise if a player who has four goals in his last two games since returning from a thigh injury did not find the net against Nantes at the Parc des Princes to claim the record outright.
