Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has urged Erik ten Hag to give Jonny Evans a one-year deal to help both player and club.
Many supporters were surprised when United announced Evans had signed a short-term contract with the Reds to allow him to feature in their tour of the US.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the 35-year-old played against Wrexham as a mainly youthful side lost 3-1 to the National League champions.
Despite being unable to inspire a victory for the Reds' youngsters Yorke, who monitored Evans' progress when he was coming up the youth team ranks at United and played alongside him at Sunderland, believes the central defender still has the ability to play an important role for Ten Hag should he be given a new deal.
