Caretaker boss George Elokobi has added another former Premier League player to his coaching staff at Maidstone. Craig Fagan, who played in the top flight with Derby and Hull, is on board at the Gallagher Stadium.
The ex-forward, who also had a spell at Gillingham, was a team-mate of Elokobi’s at Colchester. He replaces ex-Watford striker Gifton Noel-Williams, who spent a couple of weeks helping Elokobi and Ryan Gordon before accepting a management job in India.
Fagan, 40, knows the National League well, having recently worked as assistant manager at Southend. “Craig’s on board until someone tells us different,” said Elokobi. "At the moment, we’ve got great coaches to support myself and keep giving the group the tactical game plans and ingredients to go out there and perform with freedom, like they are doing. "I’ve known Craig a long time.
We were team-mates at Colchester. We won promotions, so we know what it takes as a coaching team to try and help the group out. “Having Craig on board is going to give us that extra edge as a management team to make sure we turn things around.” Maidstone host Gateshead tomorrow - the first of two home games against relegation rivals, with Scunthorpe to follow in a rearranged fixture on Tuesday night.
