It’s another new dawn at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag begins his tenure as manager. The Dutchman, 52, is United’s sixth boss of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, following in the footsteps of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Ten Hag has a huge job on his hands to turn things around at Old Trafford after United finished sixth at the end of a dismal campaign with the Premier League giants.

A group of players have already left United this summer including Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic.

Work is going on behind the scenes to bring in Ten Hag’s top targets, including Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia, but neither deal has been finalised as things stand. United’s Premier League rivals have all strengthened their squads so far this summer and there’s a danger that the Red Devils will fall further behind unless a flurry of players are signed before the start of the new season.
