Former Australian captain Tim Paine revealed that former opener David Warner was not serious and barely joking as he offered to come out of retirement from international cricket to help Australia end their hunt for an opener ahead of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India.

Days back, Warner had offered to come back to the international cricket if Australia could not find the right opening partner for Usman Khawaja due to Steve Smith sliding down to number four after mixed performances as an opener and all-rounder Cameron Green being out of the Test summer due to a back injury.

But Paine, now speaking to SEN, suggested that Warner was just joking around and even had remarked "I got them good" in a conversation with the former Aussie wicketkeeper. "He was not dead serious, that is Davey.

How do I know? Because I spoke to him, that is how. Is that good enough for the people?," said Paine to SEN. "He said, 'I got them good, haha'.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are set to retain Australian batter Travis Head and young Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy as their final two capped players ahead of the IPL auction. According to ESPNcricinfo, Head will be retained for Rs 14 crore, while Reddy will secure a deal worth Rs 6 crore. With these two key retentions, SRH have now finalized their quota of five capped players before the auction, solidifying the core team that propelled them to the IPL 2024 final. The combined value of these retentions will deduct INR 75 crore from their total purse of INR 120 crore. Previously, SRH had confirmed the retention of Heinrich Klaasen (INR 23 crore), Pat Cummins (INR 18 crore), and Abhishek Sharma (INR 14 crore). They are now eligible to use a right-to-match card to potentially re-sign one of their uncapped players during the auction.
Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia, former Australia skipper Tim Paine expressed his feelings as right-arm seamer Mohammed Shami is set to miss the upcoming series. Following the end of the ODI World Cup 2023, the India pacer suffered an ankle injury, which forced him to stay away from the field since November last year. "Shami is going to be a huge difference, Bumrah, there is so much on his shoulders. If he gets hurt, then it's curtains for me," Paine said while talking on The Grade Cricketer podcast.
South Africa quick Kagiso Rabada has dethroned Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as the top bowler in the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings released on Wednesday. Rabada has claimed the No.1 spot on the back of strong form for SA during the ongoing World Test Championship, with the right-armer taking his 300th Test wicket during the recent seven-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in Mirpur. Bumrah, who failed to take a single wicket in the second Test against New Zealand in Pune, has dropped two places and is now third, behind Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who has moved up to second.
Pat Cummins has never been part of a victorious Test series campaign against India, and the Australian captain wants to erase that blemish from his CV during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting with the first match at Perth from November 22. Under the leadership of 31-year-old, Australia have won the World Test Championship, the ODI World Cup, both beating the Indians, and the Ashes, but never managed to beat India in a bilateral rubber in the traditional format.
Till this day, the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy remains one of the most famous wins of the Indian cricket team in its Test history. Despite several front-line players like Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah missing important matches due to various reasons, the Indian cricket team conjured one of the bravest comeback in the history of cricket. This was the same series where India had lost the first game in Adelaide after being 36 all out. The series also saw sledging reach a different level with then Australia captain Tim Paine taking it to another level.
