The pressure on Erik ten Hag's shoulders as Manchester United manager increased at the weekend. Losing at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League is not a good result, whichever way you look at it.
But losing 3-0 in the manner of the defeat was arguably more disappointing than the loss of the three points that were on offer.
Ten Hag's future was uncertain following the end of last season, despite winning the FA Cup against Manchester City. United and Ineos backed the Dutchman by agreeing a one-year contract extension that runs until 2026, but results in the early weeks of the Premier League season have led to increased pressure surrounding Ten Hag's future in the Old Trafford dugout.
United have just seven points from their first six Premier League fixtures and are 12th in the table. The Reds were also held to a 1-1 draw with FC Twente at home in the Europa League last week, and there are set to be more tough fixtures to come in the near future.
