Erik ten Hag came to the defence of Anthony Martial after he was brought into question for his recent displays in a Manchester United shirt.

The French forward was hammered for his poor performance in United's defeat to Newcastle at the weekend and Ten Hag even admitted he became 'aggressive' during a heated exchange with the forward.

Martial was finally replaced by Rasmus Hojlund after an hour at St. James' Park, with his lacklustre individual display encapsulating everything that was wrong with the side on the day.

Ahead of their clash with Chelsea in the Premier League, Ten Hag was asked if it was finally time to drop the likes of Martial and promote academy talents instead.
