Dean Henderson slams Manchester United for Jesse Lingard treatment and reveals role in transfer

Dean Henderson has taken a swipe at Manchester United for their handling of Jesse Lingard's career in his final season at Old Trafford last term.

Lingard, who was released by United at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract, has been reunited with Henderson at Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest.

The attacking-midfielder has joined the City Ground outfit on a one-year contract. The move to the Midlands outfit has seen him rejoin forces with United goalkeeper Henderson, who is with Steve Cooper's side on a season-long loan deal, in an attempt to rekindle his career after a season to forget at Old Trafford last term.

Both Henderson and Lingard were promised key roles in the squad ahead of the start of last season by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but they failed to materialise. The club told AFP it questioned the methods behind the selection of the Ballon d'Or winner, saying that defender Dani Carvajal, another of the 30 players nominated, had also been unfairly overlooked.  "If the award criteria doesn't give it to Vinicius as the winner, then those same criteria should point to Carvajal as the winner," the club told AFP.  "As this was not the case, it is clear that Ballon d'Or-UEFA does not respect Real Madrid. And Real Madrid does not go where it is not respected."
