Shelbourne have confirmed that goalkeeper Scott van der Sluis has been released early from his contract to tale part in the reality TV show Love Island. The 22-year-old's request to get out of his contract was granted by Shels to participate in the ITV programme.Van der Sluis joined the club last summer, but has been limited to just three first-team appearances, two of those coming in this season’s Leinster Senior Cup.Head coach Damien Duff has wished the Welshman well in his future endeavours."I was shocked and saddened that Scott chose a villa in Mallorca full of beautiful single women over myself, the staff and the players," he said."All jokes aside, I thank Scott for his services to Shelbourne FC and we all wish him the very best for the future, whatever that holds."Van der Sluis said he has loved his time at Tolka Park, but is keen for a different challenge."Football is all I’ve ever done, all I’ve ever known.
So this is a new and exciting opportunity for a change-up in life," he said."Shels are a great club going in the right direction and I look forward to seeing what the lads can achieve.
Shels is my club now, I look forward to cheering on the lads as a fan." Watch Greece v Republic of Ireland in the Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday night from 7pm on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, follow a live blog on RTÉ.ie/Sport and the RTÉ News app or listen to live radio commentary with Game On on 2fm
