Cyriel Dessers has been dreaming since his school days of wearing a blue kit with the Champions League badge resting on its sleeve.

Contribute to a PSV cuffing and he'll finally see it come true. The shade of blue might have changed for the childhood Chelsea supporter but the desire to realise that ambition with Rangers remains just as strong.

And now it’s within touching distance, with Michael Beale’s side a mere 90 minutes away from clinching a return to Uefa’s top tournament following last week’s 2-2 draw in Glasgow.

There’s still some serious work to be done to elbow out the Dutchmen. But former Feyenoord frontman Dessers is ready to press on and ensure it’s the arm on his jersey that will be sporting the famous starball stitching when the group stages kick-off next month. “It would mean the world to play in the Champions League,” said the 28-year-old. “Of course, we have several goals this season but this is our first big goal.
