CWG 2022: Indian women's hockey team wins bronze

Commonwealth Games on a high note here on Sunday. Leading 1-0, India conceded a penalty corner with less than 30 seconds to go for the final hooter, as the match went into shootout after Olivia Merry's equaliser.

India though held their nerves in the shootout to emerge winners. Coming off their heartbreaking loss to Australia in a controversial semifinal, India showed the intent to wrap up their campaign with a win and earn a podium finish.

Salima Tete's goal gave India the lead and they led 1-0 at half time, paving the way for an entertaining second half. Neha Goyal almost doubled the lead after the break, but good defending by New Zealand prevented the Indians from consolidating their position.

The Indians won 25-20, 25-21, 26-28, 19-25 15-12.

As India celebrates 75 years of Independence, the Indian men's hockey team, post their victorious return from Commonwealth Games 2022, visited the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The eleven-member team showed their deep interest in visiting this monument of great national importance. With the inquisitiveness of knowing and learning about the glorious history of the country, the team took a tour around the monument and visited the Veerta Chakra (circle of bravery), Tyag Chakra (circle of sacrifice), Param Yodhdha sthal etc. Meanwhile, coming over the walls of Tyag Chakra, some of the team members said, "It is really a proud moment for us to see more than 26000 names of martyrs etched here and without missing the chance, we would like to offer our homage to the martyrs of Kargil War."

Chess Olympiad: India 'B' Team Wins Bronze In Open Section; India 'A' Women Also Finish Third

The India 'B' team settled for a bronze medal in the Open section while the India 'A' women's side also finished third in the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai on Tuesday. India 'B' defeated Germany 3-1 in their final round match to end at third position. Uzbekistan sprung a surprise by bagging the gold medal with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands ahead of a strong Armenian team, which beat Spain 2.5-1.5 in the final round, in the Open section. The top-seeded India 'A' women's team crashed to a 1-3 defeat in the 11th and final round to USA to see it's gold medal hopes evaporate. The Koneru Humpy-led team finished third.
