Commonwealth Games here, the Birmingham Games turned out to be one of the most memorable editions for the 210-strong Indian contingent.

From athletics to racquet sports, cricket to hockey, boxing to wrestling, the Indian athletes finished with podium finishes in almost every event they took part in.

Indian women's cricket team played a nail-biting final match against Australia at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Sunday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side chased a target of 162 runs and was in a state of bother towards the final stages of the game. This is when Yastika Bhatia changed everyone's expression in the dressing room within seconds. While walking out to bat in the game, Yastika tried to go over the advertisement board to enter the ground but her right foot stuck on the board and the batter fell awkwardly on the ground.
The Indian men's hockey team will be facing six-time Commonwealth Games champions Australia in the gold medal match at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre on Monday. India had defeated South Africa 3-2 in the semi-final and before that they had recorded 11-0 win over Ghana, 8-0 against Canada and 4-1 over Wales. The Indian men's team has never won gold at Commonwealth Games and in the past, they have lost two finals against Australia. The side had last won a medal at CWG in 2014 when they took home the silver medal.
The indomitable Nikhat Zareen added a Commonwealth Games light flyweight (50kg) title to her bulging trophy cabinet while Amit Panghal (51kg) began his redemption journey with a much-needed gold winning show on Sunday. Nikhat, who is on a winning spree since the Nationals last year, asserted her dominance over Northern Ireland's Carly Mc Naul as she punched her way to a comprehensive 5-0 win in her maiden CWG appearance.
It is a one-two finish on the podium for India in men's triple jump as Eldhose Paul won gold medal with a best jump of 17.03m, while Abdulla Aboobacker jumped 17.02m to take home the silver medal. It could have been a clean sweep for India but Praveen Chitravel finished fourth and missed the podium by a whisker.
