Crystal Palace are in a good position to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher if he becomes available in future windows, having failed to bring him back to Selhurst Park in the summer, according to Tom Barclay of The Sun. Patrick Vieira oversaw a busy few months of business in south London but ultimately failed in one of the primary transfer objectives.
According to The Times, they submitted a £27 million bid for the 22-year-old late in the transfer window but it ultimately failed.
It was understood that Palace had hoped the prospect of regular football in the build-up to the World Cup would be enough to tempt him back to the club.
Newcastle United were also interested, with The Sun reporting that the midfielder became their top priority, with Chelsea slapping a £40 million price tag on his head.
